While designing your web site, here are some helpful questions to ask yourself.

  • Who is going to be looking at my web site? Your website needs to fit the demographic of your clients. If you are trying to reach a more conservative group, a website with flashy graphics and animations is probably not the route for you. It is good to come up with a few imaginary personas and look at your web site from different viewpoints. This helps in pin pointing what direction of the way your web site should look.
  • What are they looking for? It is important to know what your clients will be looking for. This helps in categorizing and ordering your content. What information will your clients need most? That information should probably go closer to the top of your page and on pages that are your main sections. Be intuitive about your clients.
  • Where will they expect to find it? This is one of the important things that need to be kept in mind. Your web site needs to be simple in the aspect of navigation. If your clients can't find the information they are looking for easily, then there is a good chance they will go somewhere else. The most important information should be split up into only a few sections. Five or six main sections(buttons) is usually a good number. Three of them should be your home page, about us page, and a contact us page. The others could be a services page, events page, or a photo gallery just to name a few. Any other information can be linked to from the main pages.
